Biography

I have been teaching and doing art for most of my life. My work in batik, pastel, watercolor and clay has been shown in New York City, Long Island and Vermont (see list of exhibitions). I am a representational painter, yet enjoy experimentation with different ideas and media. I am interested in understanding the effect of color and light on objects and natural forms.

I lived in Vermont for a period of five years, 1971-76 and continue to be inspired by its landscape and peaceful atmosphere.

I studied Fine Arts at Carnegie Mellon University, where I received a B.F.A. degree in 1967 and attended New York University, receiving an M.A. degree in Art Education in 1970. Until 2009, I served on the Board of the Art Guild of Port Washington, a community-based non-profit arts organization.

Teaching adults and children of all ages has been a way of sharing my love of art and my belief in its importance. I was an instructor at the University of Vermont from 1971-1974 where I taught courses in batik. In 1973, I received a grant from the Vermont Council on the Arts and taught art workshops throughout the state. Upon returning to New York I taught outreach workshops through The Museum of Contemporary Crafts and The Jewish Museum. During this time, I received a grant to work as an Artist in Residence through the Studio in a School Association. I taught at an elementary school in Brooklyn.

Currently I teach art to children. In my role as President of The Art Guild of Pt. Washington, I was instrumental in founding an Art Center at the historic Elderfields Preserve in Manhasset, N.Y. I regularly exhibit works in oil, watercolor and pastel. I have studied with Michael Burban, Joseph Peller, Ephraim Rubenstein, and other instructors at The Art Student’s League in New York City.
